Podcast | The Trend in Corporate Giving: Are Businesses Stepping Up?

March 15, 2024

Are businesses keeping up their commitment to corporate giving and social responsibility?

Companies are under a glaring spotlight these days to specify and follow up on their commitment to corporate social responsibility, or CSR. So what’s the trend in corporate giving, especially in uncertain economic times? On this episode, we speak with Nate Clark, global director of CSR and president of the John Deere Foundation, the charitable offshoot of Deere & Co., one of the world’s largest makers of construction, agricultural and forestry machinery. Having recently marked its 75th anniversary, the foundation has contributed more than $400 million over that time to a variety of nutrition, shelter and education initiatives in local communities. We also discuss broader trends in CSR, including the practice of “unrestricted giving” to non-profits — essentially, money with no strings attached. Finally, we address the question of whether corporate givers can be counted on to maintain their charitable commitments when profits dip and the economy takes a nosedive. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
