The Biden administration says it has hit a new milestone, as it has started making available data on inland freight hubs on its supply chain platform, the Freight Logistics Optimizations Works (FLOW) initiative.
The FLOW initiative was first launched in March of 2022 as a response to supply chain disruptions brought on by the pandemic. It was made to collect, aggregate, and anonymize information shared by participants on inbound containerized freight, and then use that to weigh future demand volumes against the current capacity in regions to help move ocean containers.
Now, destination data for rail terminals and warehouses can be used to mitigate supply chain delays, and provide stakeholders with the information they need to make capacity decisions at U.S. ports.
“Two years ago, we launched FLOW, the first public-private platform of its kind to share data on supply chains in order to help goods move quickly and cheaply,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “The Biden-Harris Administration's efforts to strengthen American supply chains have helped reduce inflation from pandemic peaks — and today, with the expansion of FLOW, we expect to see even greater benefits to American families and businesses.”
The Biden administration also credits recent improvements made to supply chain infrastructure for an 80 percent reduction in inflation since 2022.
